Impact of Incontinence

Invisible Suffering

Living with Incontinence

Lowers quality of life and decreases satisfaction with the birth

There is limited research about the impact of stress urinary incontinence, but it’s clear from what’s out there that living with SUI is damaging. People experiencing incontinence limit their daily activities, travel plans, exercise routines in order to hide or manage their leaking urine. It’s demoralizing to not be able to care for yourself, especially as a new parent. In some cases, parents blame their birth and baby for their new pelvic floor dysfunction and are not satisfied with the experience of birth or parenting because of the toll it’s taken on their body. What’s most difficult is that these people are often left alone in their suffering and not given the adequate tools and information to care for themselves.
